Don’t feel pressured into getting your dog castrated
Remember it is not reversible. There are a number reasons to have your dog “done” being pressured into it is not one of them.
Medical benefits:
Castration eliminates the possibility of testicular cancer and greatly reduces the chance of prostate disease, two extremely common and serious problems of older male dogs. Many older dogs that are not neutered will develop prostate disease or testicular tumors if they survive to an old enough age. Castration is believed to give males a longer life. Also recommended is to to hold off on castration until the dog has reached full maturity to avoid possible side effects of lymphatic cancer and bone diseases.
Some dogs are very randy and hump everything (this could also be a dominance thing not sexual) neutering could eliminate this. They can get aggressive with other male dogs, they can start marking in the house.
There are a lot of intact dogs that are perfectly healthy and well behaved. Be aware that losing testosterone can make a nervous dog much worse. If you have any inclination you would like to breed from your pooch do not have it done.
The choice is completely yours. If your dog is well behaved has good recall, doesn’t hump everything and doesn’t scent indoors, there should be no reason why he could carry on his life perfectly happy and intact.
